Coravin, Inc., wins Innovator of the Year Award at this year’s Wine Star Awards alongside notable luminaries in the wine world
Boston, MA February 16, 2022 – Wine Enthusiast’s 22nd annual Wine Star Awards took place on Monday, February 7, at Nobu Eden Roc Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida. The black-tie gala honored individuals and companies in the wine and beverage space who are propelling the industry forward in spite of recent unprecedented headwinds. .
Coravin founder and chairman, Greg Lambrecht, was in attendance with members of the Coravin engineering team to accept the award for Innovator of the Year, in recognition of the company’s newest wine by the glass system, Coravin Sparkling™, that preserves sparkling wines for 4 weeks.
The introduction of Coravin Sparkling™ is a game changer for the wine industry, extending the life of Champagne, Cava, Prosecco and other effervescent varieties for weeks. This makes sparkling wine even more accessible for everyday enjoyment rather than reserving for special occasions. For on-premise operators, the innovation represents a revolution for sparkling wine by the glass consumption. Now, even premium cuvees that were previously reserved for the bottle list can be offered by the glass, increasing revenue, profit and overall guest satisfaction. Recognizing this opportunity, luxury wine & spirits house Moët Hennessy named Coravin the Official Preservation Partner of Moët Hennessy Champagnes in October 2021.
At the Wine Star Awards, each table was provided with a Coravin Sparkling™ system to use. In his acceptance speech, Lambrecht shared, "As an inventor, it's my hope that my innovations will positively influence someone's life. As founder of Coravin, it is my privilege to work alongside an extraordinary team of innovators who actually took my dream and made it a reality.” He added, “During the pandemic, the team launched four new systems including Coravin Sparkling™. Now we can serve any bottle, any closure, still or sparkling – fulfilling my original dream."
“Developing the Sparkling system was really one of the best things I’ve done in my career,” said Mike Rider, Senior Vice President of Engineering at Coravin. “The toughest part to solving preservation for sparkling wine was finding the balance between providing actual preservation and the usability, and doing that in a way that works across this broad spectrum of wines.”
Coravin would like to extend congratulations to all of the Wine Enthusiast 22nd Wine Star Award winners, including Winemaker of the Year, Fred Merwarth, Sommelier of the Year, Yannick Benjamin, Wine Executive of the Year, Eugenia Keegan of Jackson Family Wines, and Winery of the Year winners Josh Cellars, Villa Sparina, and Henschke.
